Our main reason for visiting Australia (other than that it’s been on my list for literally forever) was to celebrate our friends’ wedding. Cam is from Kurri Kurri, Australia, and Amanda is from the USA. They had their wedding in Georgia, but also traveled to Australia to celebrate with the Aussie side of the family. Kurri Kurri is small but beautiful. They are close to the beaches in Newcastle and the wineries in Hunter Valley, so there was a lot to keep us busy. We also took a day trip to the Blue Mountains which involved a lot of driving, but was beautiful. There is a train that I believe is the steepest in the world. One of the highlights in any trip I take is the animals that I get to see. In and around Kurri Kurri there are sooooo many wild kangaroos jumping all over the place (similar to deer in the USA, but more of them to dart out in front of your car). We also got to visit Oakvale farms which is kind of like a petting zoo with native animals to Australia (yes, you can feed and pet the kangaroos!). I made friends with a very cuddly baby goat that I carried around with me. We had the most wonderful hosts who not only showed us around (we needed drivers as I could not manage the left side of the road; plus, Cam’s father is knowledgeable about so much of the animals and fauna in Australia), but they also cooked for us and gave us a place to stay. We had a very relaxing stay. See our Australia photos here.
