Maine was my favorite spot so far! The weather was gorgeous (it was the first good weather they've had this year, so we got super lucky!), and the people were lovely. We drove up from Rhode Island and stopped in Portland, Maine to have a lobster roll and watch the seagulls. We also stopped in Freeport where we bought some more gear at the L.L. Bean store (clothes, sunglasses, etc.... we should probably stop buying things, but these are necessities!) We stayed with a family friend of Colin's and his family in Palermo, ME. They were very gracious hosts, and we really enjoyed their company (and their pup, Kimba, an 80 pound Golden Retriever)! We took a day trip to Acadia National Park, and it was beautiful. We did a hike / climb to the top of Bee Hive Summit which was my favorite part of the trip so far. Definitely not for someone who doesn't like heights - you have to be able to climb vertically up rocks and climb iron rungs with no assurance that you won't fall off. But that's the fun of it! If you liked that climb, you should consider doing the cable climb of half dome at Yosemite.
