Salt Lake City, UT

I never knew what to think of Utah.  I hadn't really heard much about it to be honest.  Like I said previously, I had never heard of Moab.  I didn't know that Utah has so many National Parks and that there are so many things to do all over the state.  During my first 4 days in Utah, we were in 4 national parks (see separate posts), so I didn't know if it was the park atmosphere that I liked about our time there or Utah in general.  But now I know -- I really like Utah!

I actually wish we'd had more than a few days in Salt Lake City because there is a lot to do within an hour drive of the city that we didn't get a chance to do (i.e. great skiing, Antelope Island, salt flats).  We did visit This Is The Place Heritage Park though!  This place has several buildings set up from around the time that pioneers settled in Utah (some are the originals), and there is someone in each one to tell you a little about it.  I didn't have high expectations because it could have easily been very cheesy, but I actually learned a lot about the history of SLC.  Did you know that in the 1850's, people in SLC used their own alphabet (the Deseret Alphabet)?  I didn't either!  See more at this Wiki article.  

I'm torn on whether I would want to live there or not.  I think I would probably enjoy it, but from talking to some of the people we met around town, it also seems a lot more conservative than I typically go for.  I didn't really experience anything in particular, so I don't know how things would play out.  We went to a pretty happening bar on a Tuesday night, but their basketball team was also in the playoffs, so that was a contributing factor for sure.  If we got jobs there, I'd try it out at least.  And if nothing else, I'll definitely visit again and suggest you do the same :)
