We came to Guatemala with the main purpose of learning the basics of Spanish. The schools in Antigua are pretty cheap (only a little more expensive than in Quetzaltenango), and it’s still not too far (about an hour or an hour and a half) from the airport in Guatemala City (whereas I think that Quetzaltenango is about 4 hours from Guatemala City). It was $525 for both of us to have 5 days of one-on-one tutoring (from 8 AM – 1 PM with a half hour break at 10 AM), and that includes our lodging and almost all of our meals. Unfortunately, it didn’t include our beer :(

We LOVE Mexico City! I can’t believe that we’ve never come here before – it’s so cheap to get here; super cheap once you’re here; and a great city on top of that.
Arizona was fun! I don't know if we'll end up there because Colin says he wants more trees, but I had a good time. Tucson seems to have more personality than Phoenix does, but we went to the Film Bar in Phoenix for a "Big Gay Sing Along" and had a ton of fun. I'd get a membership there if we lived there for sure. We did karaoke in Tucson (and I got Colin to sing!), and that was a blast too. We also went to Old Tucson which was really cute. We saw a comedy stunt show where they explain what they do in old Western movies, and that was pretty entertaining. Now we are back in Waxhaw with Colin's family, and we got to see Indiana Bones for a day! We fly to Florida tomorrow, and we won't have a vehicle from here on out :)
See our USA photos here. LA is super cool. And not just because my wife lives there (long story), but the best part of the city is getting to see her for sure. The weather is typically perfect, and there are some hikes that aren't too far out of the city. We hiked up to the Hollywood sign (beware... if you park inside the gates, they close them at sunset! We had to jog down to get to the car in time) in Griffith Park, and we had a nice view of the city too! There are a few other things in the park that I want to do next time we visit (like the observatory). We had delicious ramen and Korean BBQ (yummmmm) -- You can find any type of food you want in the city which is so nice. We also got to see Pomo and Harrison Brome live, and they were AMAZING! Must sees if they come to a city near you.
See our USA photos here. I never knew what to think of Utah. I hadn't really heard much about it to be honest. Like I said previously, I had never heard of Moab. I didn't know that Utah has so many National Parks and that there are so many things to do all over the state. During my first 4 days in Utah, we were in 4 national parks (see separate posts), so I didn't know if it was the park atmosphere that I liked about our time there or Utah in general. But now I know -- I really like Utah!
I've been told that Colorado is the real Sunshine State. Florida claims that name for their license plates, but in reality, it thunderstorms all the freaking time in FL. Colorado's claim to fame is that it is sunny 300 days of the year.
After having visited Kansas City, it's now on the list of potential cities to settle down in. However, previously to actually visiting, I really had no idea what to expect. Just having "Kansas" in the name of it made me think of corn fields (maybe? Does Kansas grow corn?). And I'm not great with geography to start with, so wrapping my head around which state Kansas City is in was hard too (it is on the border of Missouri and Kansas, but the main part of the city is actually in Missouri -- tricky, tricky).
Little late in posting this, but we enjoyed the rest of Canada! I had no idea that Toronto is so huge! It's the 4th largest city in North America (after Mexico City, NYC, and LA). But it doesn't feel that big when you're there. People are still nice, and it's clean. It doesn't feel cut throat like NYC feels to me. I wish we had more time there, but we only stopped in for a day. We'll definitely visit again after we settle down and have real jobs again
HUSKY PUPPIES! My favorite part of Canada has been cuddling puppies. It's just not a fair fight when you add puppies into the mix. If you take out the puppies though, I still loved QC.
We spent the day in Providence for 3 reasons: 1) Colin needed to visit so he could get his 48th state, 2) Colin wanted to visit Pawtucket Brewery from Family Guy, and 3) Colin has been listening to Crime Town which is a new podcast all about the mafia in Rhode Island.
